About Dr. Unger

Great to meet you.

I have a strong foundation of 25 years of diverse experience in the mental health field. Throughout my career, I have worked in diverse settings and roles as a professional supervisor, professor, workshop facilitator, and expert witness in the judicial system.

My integrative approach to psychology combines traditional therapeutic techniques — CBT, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed care — with holistic, body-mind practices and wisdom-based traditions to support overall well-being. I meet with adolescents, adults, and seniors who may be experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, identity issues, or a life crisis or transition, combining evidence-based practice with compassionate, culturally attuned care to help create lasting, positive change.

How Change Happens

At first, we may find ourselves caught in the same painful patterns without understanding how we got there.

With time, we begin to recognize what is happening. We notice the familiar thoughts, emotions, relationships, and choices that keep leading us back to the same place.

Awareness gives us an opportunity to respond differently.

What once felt automatic can become a choice. What once seemed unavoidable can become something we learn to approach in a new way.

Eventually, we may discover that growth isn’t only about avoiding the old path.

It’s about realizing that we are free to create a new one.

The Guest House

Think of the heart as a guest house, with something new arriving each day.

Joy may enter. So may sadness, fear, anger, or an unexpected moment of clarity.

When they arrive, make room for them.

Even sorrow has something to show us. It may enter loudly, unsettling what felt familiar, yet leave behind space for something new.

When a difficult thought appears, notice it. When grief comes, allow it a place to rest. When joy arrives, welcome that too.

No visitor stays forever.

Each feeling passes through, and each can teach us something about ourselves, our lives, and what we may need.

Welcome what comes, listen to what it carries, and allow it to leave when it is ready.
